It seems Mr. Stevens is at again.
If you recall, last year he introduced a bill called DOPA (Delete Online Predators Act).
*Note to self…find out how to delete people from the internet. I want to delete the bastard who keeps sending me emails trying to sell me V1@gr@. I’ve told him over and over again that I already have plenty. I wonder if it has to do with these mysterious tubes I keep hearing about? Hmm…
Oh sorry. Anyway. The bill stated that all schools would have to block any and all interactive websites. This included most notably, MySpace, Facebook and Digg. The bill went nowhere and died on the steps, just being a bill.
But don’t count the T-Train out quite yet…or is it T-Truck? Anyway…
Somehow out of the ashes, our lovable, idiotic, “I need a funny quote for my blog” punching bag, Ted Stevens, has risen once again.
This January, Stevens introduced a bill remarkably similar to the old one, that would require any school or library that receives government aid to block interactive websites. Let’s called it “DOPA: Part Deux”.
My first question is, what is an interactive website? Blogs, wikis, social networks all come to mind. Could it encompass more? Is the term so generic that any site that you have to sign up for would fall under it?
Does this mean that Wikipedia will be blocked? How about the blog that runs my schools newsletter? Or the online newspapers? Is Ted Stevens real plan to shut the internet down? Put a cap on the tubes and go back to the Pony Express? Stay tuned next week sports fans to find out the answers to all these questions and more. Same Ted-channel, same Ted-time.
So what exactly is he trying to prove? That he knows nothing about the internet and how today’s society is interacting with it? Don’t worry Steve-O, you’ve more than proven yourself to be an incompetent, under-informed, babbling crackpot. So stick that in your pipe tube and smoke it.
As fun and as humorous as it is to make fun of this guy, he truly does pose a risk to the openness of the internet. The very thing that makes the internet, the internet. You can’t block certain webpages just because you think it’s the right thing to do. If you would like to do that, move to China. I’m sure you will find that their laws governing the internet will be to your liking.
Also, do you not think kids these days are smart enough to get around the filters? I-I-I just the other day saw one of th-those internets that would a-a-llow me to get to any site I wanted through the magic of proxies. The list even included a decent amount of SSL based Proxies. So what are you going to do, block every single secure “https” site globally?
You can’t stop people from doing what they want on the internet Ted, get over it. You are chasing ghosts at this point and doing nothing but making Alaska look bad. You’re an embarrassment to your state and your country.
To quote Chris Griffin, Someone needs to stop this “dangerous retard”, and fast.
