Site Of The Week: Part 1

By Randy Jensen | Jun 30, 2006

So I was messing around on the internet instead of working…nothing new. But after I came across a bunch of really neat sites I decided to start doing a post every Friday entitled Site Of The Week. We all know that by the time Friday comes, we need a little something to get us over the 9-5 slump that our jobs seem to put us in. No real rhyme or reason for any of these sites. I just want to find something interesting, innovative, or just plain different, to prove that beyond popular belief, you have not surfed to every site on the web.

This week’s site is http://www.dontclick.it/. It’s basically an experimental site where all the navigation is controlled by just rolling your mouse over the item.

The premise behind the project is absolutely genius. If you go to the “understand” section and then “statistics” you’ll see that even though the site does not want you to click anywhere, half of all visitors clicked at least once (myself being included). It’s a new way and it is really hard to get used to at first. I see a button, I click it.

Under the “learn” section they have a pretty cool ergonomic diagram showing the human body with different facts about the way computers affect the body.

My favorite section was the “explore” area. Here they allow you to see different ways that you could interact with a web page and its elements. The have what they call “The Button Lab” that gives you three different scenarios as to how you would click a button, without clicking on it. They also have a little game that I found to be very time consuming…and worthless, which is what we are all about right? I love it.

If you have work overload and want to waste some time while stimulating your brain (at least you can tell your boss that is what you are doing), check out dontclick.it.

Oh, by the way, leave me a comment to let me know whether you like the site of the week idea, or if it’s pretty much retarded…honesty is the best policy:)
