My Quest For Number 1 In Google: Revisited

By Randy Jensen | Aug 13, 2006

Well, it’s been about a month and a half since I last checked my stats in the search engines. If you didn’t read the old post, you can read it here: My Quest For Number 1 In Google

The results didn’t turn out as well as I wanted, but I still have another month and a half left to reach my goal, and there are some results that show I’m on the right track. Just a quick refresher, my major stats from late July were…
Google: Home: #9; Blog: #27
MSN: Home: Not Indexed; Blog: #3 & #4
Yahoo: Home: #66!; Blog #179

I’ve listed my new results below a little differently becuase I added a couple new search strings. This time I searched for: “randy jensen”, “randy jensen online”, and “randy jensen blog” (this instead of just “randy jensen”). Here they are…

graph My Quest For Number 1 In Google: Revisited

So you can see that I actually dropped a spot in Google for my primary search term “randy jensen”, but I made major improvements in Yahoo! and MSN. I jumped from #66 to number #18 in Yahoo and from not being indexed in MSN, to being #3, #4 and #5.

“Randy Jensen Online” is doing well, but this just confirms the fact that one key factor in the search engines algorithms is your actual domain name being weighted as a search term. Since randy jensen.com wasn’t available, I had to come up with something different, hence, randyjensenonline.com. Finally, “randy jensen blog” did just as well, only once coming up short of the #1 spot, of course in Yahoo.
Well, you can see why I was a little disappointed with the results since I didn’t move up at all in Google (I was hoping to be closer to #6 or #7), so the pressure is on for the rest of August and September. But, the results definitely show there has been some good progress and saturation of my site, sub-pages, and other sites linking to me being picked up.

Now I know you’re probably asking yourself, “How can I help?”…no? Oh well, it was worth a shot and I’m going to give you some ideas anyway.
