adobe air Installing Adobe Air 1.5 On Ubuntu Linux
Adobe Air 1.5 was officially released today for Linux. Here’s how to install it on Ubuntu Linux (or pretty much any Linux distro)

  1. Download the AIR bin file here: http://get.adobe.com/air/
  2. Put the file in your ‘Home Folder’
  3. Open a terminal window
  4. Run this: chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
  5. Then this: sudo ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin

This should start the Adobe AIR installer. Go through the prompts and you’re done!

Note: If you have a previous version of AIR installed, you MUST remove it. I was able to search for ‘air’ and remove it through Synaptic on my machine. Also, I had to uninstall any AIR apps that I had installed as well.

Now it’s time for some apps!

There are a ton more apps out there, just search around and you’re sure to find something you like.

Update: List of AIR apps for developers and designers

Update 2: Thanks to syed in the comments, also check out the Adobe AIR Marketplace

Thanks for note about uninstalling the previous version. I wish the installer would of noticed the previous installation and done it manually. After I removed the previous installation by just removing the AIR and AIR apps in /opt I had no problems.
  • Hey Josh, glad I could help. I ran into the same problem and it took me a while to think of uninstalling the old version. One of the joys of beta testing :)

Try out eBay, AOL, AMP, AgileAgenda AIR applications. They are pretty cool. Or you can browse through a lot of them on http://adobe.com/go/marketplace
