More Passionate Inspiration From Gary Vaynerchuk
I’m a huge fan of Gary Vaynerchuk. I posted a video a while ago here that is one of my favorite inspirational videos ever, even though it’s not really an ‘inspirational’ video by definition. Well, Gary recently spoke at the Future Of Web Apps in Miami and he was once again, amazing. Here are the two videos of him and below are some quotes from the videos that I love.
Part 1
Part 2
We live in a ‘brand’ world
Content is King. Marketing and branding are Queen…and you know who runs the household
Before you worry about the community, make sure it’s in your heart
You have to love your community more than you love yourself
Communities know everything. They spread. But they also care
Rock Climbing At Stone Works Climbing Gym
Just got done climbing at Stone Works Climbing Gym in Carrollton, Texas. It’s the tallest indoor rock climbing facility in the United States and second worldwide. It was pretty amazing. The routes range in height from 18 feet to 121 feet. I of course forgot my camera, but I’ll get pics next time I’m there. Definitely recommended for anyone who loves rock climbing.
I’ll leave you with a couple of pics from their site.

VLC Christmas Icon Easter Egg
Opened VLC today and saw a little easter egg with their icon…

I always find it interesting to see the new ways people customize their logo during different events/holidays. It seems like Google made the trend popular, and now you’re starting to see people becoming really innovative with different ideas and spin offs.
Got any cool examples of different companies’ take on this future ‘tradition’?
**UPDATE**
OK, so I opened VLC today and I saw something weird with their icon…

It looks like there are some horns or antlers in addition to the Santa hat. They disappeared shortly after VLC opened but I grabbed a screenshot before they were gone. Gotta love what these guys are doing.
Installing Adobe Air 1.5 On Ubuntu Linux

Adobe Air 1.5 was officially released today for Linux. Here’s how to install it on Ubuntu Linux (or pretty much any Linux distro)
- Download the AIR bin file here: http://get.adobe.com/air/
- Put the file in your ‘Home Folder’
- Open a terminal window
- Run this:
chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin - Then this:
sudo ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin
This should start the Adobe AIR installer. Go through the prompts and you’re done!
Note: If you have a previous version of AIR installed, you MUST remove it. I was able to search for ‘air’ and remove it through Synaptic on my machine. Also, I had to uninstall any AIR apps that I had installed as well.
Now it’s time for some apps!
- Twhirl – a Twitter client
- TweetDeck – another Twitter client
- Pandora Desktop – Also see Dorame
- Google Analytics – View Analytics from your desktop
Seriously Flickr?
I went to enable stats in my Flickr account today and was presented with an under construction gif that looked like it was from 1999 web design. Maybe a sign that Yahoo! is completely dead in the water and has hired monkeys for web designers??
Make sure you skip around the video to see all of its glory…
