Why Bing Will Ultimately Fail

By Randy Jensen | Jun 4, 2009

I clicked on a link off of the MSN homepage today and this is what I saw…

Bing Sucks

Why would Microsoft start combining not only Live search with Bing search, but also the MSN branding with Bing instead of MS branding?? They have some serious issues here.

Livesearch is such a clusterfork, bing has potential but has to carve out a space where it really shines. I think fumbling the branding is a HUGE mistake...

They probably plan on bailing on live search like yahoo is buying everything and selling the rest..
  • Great point. They need to get rid of Live Search and soon. Will it make them fail? Probably not. Unless you consider them a failure already.
  • You know, I think I jumped the gun a bit...I think I'm going to eat my words. I've used Bing quite a bit and I really like what they've done. I don't think it's enough to get me to switch from Google except in a few vertical searches like travel and video
  • It will be hard for people to stop going to Google because of habit. But at some point Altavista and Yahoo! were the huge search players. Microsoft's Bing is definitely much better than Live, but we'll see how they do long-term. I've barely used it but I think it has potential. People love to hate Microsoft and praise Google, but Google needs competition to remain innovative.
