Say Goodbye To “My Private Folder”
A while back I wrote about Microsoft releasing a program called “My Private Folder” that allowed you to encrypt and password protect files on your computer quickly and easily. Well, it turned out that it was too easy and just as quickly as they added it, they deleted it. Turns out the things that made this so great were also the downfall of it.
A Microsoft spokeswoman was quoted as saying “We received feedback about concerns around manageability, data recovery and encryption, and based on that feedback we are removing the application.” Basically, this means that if people are retarded and forget their password, they are screwed. It also means that people could easily encrypt and hide important files from authorities if their computers were ever seized. Terrorists, child pornographers, etc.
I have this on all of my computers and I use it everyday. I’ve got financial data, passwords, client files, etc. stored in there and I definitely feel more secure that way.
Drink More, Talk Less
A report was released last week with statistics showing that cell phone users were just as dangerous while driving as drunk drivers. The study took 40 drivers and tested them in four states: undistracted, using a regular cell phone, using a hands-free cell phone and while intoxicated to a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level.
Here is where I get my redemption (you know who you are). Only three of the 40 test subjects rear-ended the simulated car in front of them…all were on cell phones and none of them were drunk.
My biggest problem with this report, however, is their definition of drunk. When someone says they are “drunk”, they mean they are retarded drunk and well beyond the legal limit. Not that they have had enough alcohol to reach the legal limit and end up walking like a midget with a ladder in his back pocket.
Site Of The Week: Part II
Well, it seemed that the site of the week went over fairly well. A quick comment first. If you have any ideas for a site of the week, please leave a comment or email me with the url. If I like it, look for it next time. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, on with the show.
I went through about 50 sites and narrowed it down to about 3 that I really liked. Ultimately, I had to narrow it down to one. But, I think if you do anything with digital pictures, you’re really going to appreciate this site. It’s called snipshot.com.
The site is a very lightweight online image editor, and I do mean lightweight. Although the feature set it limited, it has some huge advantages. First of all, this is a place you would go to do some quick and dirty resizing, cropping, or rotating, not the place you would edit the cover of the next Sports Illustrated. The good thing is, it does what it does very, very well.
Microsoft Private Folder
Microsoft just released what they are calling “Microsoft Private Folder 1.0″. I’ve just installed it on my pc and I am pleasantly surprised, even though I was forced to restart:( After installation you see a little folder on your desktop called “My Private Folder” which has a little nicer look than the regular Windows folder icons.
Setup is a breeze. I just double clicked the folder, just like you access any folder and I was forced to enter a master password. That was it. You will see an icon in your system tray that allows you to modify different settings for the folder.
Obviously if you don’t have any files that you want to keep from the prying eyes of family, friends, etc. you may not see much use for this.
Sent Any Internets Lately?
So I had a hunch that the everyday US computer user may be just a little bit computer illiterate. But good Lord. Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens has not only proven my point, but taken it to a whole new level.
Recently a net neutrality bill was being voted on in the Senate. If you are not aware of net neutrality, I could sit here and describe it to you all day, and not only would you be lost, but I may confuse myself. Basically the telcos want to create a “tiered-internet” providing a fast lane for people who pay. An example would be if Comcast slowed down VoIP on your computer if you were using Skype, but if you used their VoIP service, it would work just fine. The committee ended in an 11-11 deadlock.
Enter Ted Stevens.
Want Clicks? Just Add Porn
It seems America is not only addicted to oil, but that it can’t seem to break its addiction to cheap porn.
A report was released by the New York Times earlier talking about what kind of spam email messages are the most effective. Of the three major players, porn, pharmaceuticals, and fake Rolex watches, its no surprise that porn is leading the way.
The report claims that spam is most successful with impulse purchases. And what gets a quicker rise out of someone than porn? They go on to say porn spam has a 5.6% click-through rate which just means that out of the billions of spam messages sent every day, almost 6% of the recipients click on them. If you know anything about email marketing, that’s a pretty good number of clicks.
Well, I’ve been trying to find more ways to get more traffic to my site…
…wanna click?
MPAA Brings Out The Big Guns…Pele?
Warning: This post contains graphic content due to the pure idiocy of the MPAA…thank you.
I saw a new ad today dealing with movie piracy. It was released by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and featured one of America’s most beloved athletes from the sport America calls its pastime. I know you can’t hear the sarcasm, but I’m laying it on pretty thick. The new add lets everyone know how out of touch the MPAA is with the rest of the world and furthers the idea that they are all retarded (please don’t sue me).
Happy 4th!
Welcome back. I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I have had a few new projects in the pipeline as well as a few transitional items that set me back. In addition to that, news really sucked this past week.
So anyway, I’m going to make a concentrated effort to get everything up and running smoothly again. I’ve added a new tagging feature that I’m hoping will make everything easier to search, just in case you wanted to re-read some of the old posts. I also have a new site in the works. It’s going to be a little more personal than this one and I want to make sure i get the design perfect.
Other than that, I will hopefully have something else posted later today, but given me previous track record, don’t hold your breath. Hope everyone has a great 4th Of July!
